The indigenous Guaraní and some Tupí communities first cultivated and drank yerba mate in what is modern-day Paraguay. They considered yerba mate a gift from the Gods and even called it the "drink of the Gods." It was highly valued for its gifts of nutrition and energy. Today, it is primarily drunk in central and southern parts of South America, where its value is known and its use is widespread.
This organic, smoke-free yerba mate comes from Brazil, the only place where true smoke-free yerba mate is currently produced. They use a very large dryer that uses very low temperatures for a long time and allows no smoke to contact the yerba mate. This is thought to reduce potentially harmful contaminants from the smoking process. Smoke-free yerba mate has a very different taste from traditional smoked mate; it is naturally softer and lighter in flavor. It is aged for a less bitter flavor. It is a pure, medium leaf cut. If you want to enjoy a cleaner, lighter, and possibly healthier mate, this is the mate for you!
