Da Hong Pao, also known as Big Red Robe, has a rich history going back over 350 years. Crossing over the span of two dynasties, it was valued in both Ming and Qing courts as a top tribute tea. Da Hong Pao owes its name to a Ming Dynasty government official who attributed his recovery from illness to its curative powers. The man gave thanks by draping his official scarlet robe over the health-bestowing tea bushes, kowtowing in respect.
Da Hong Pao is one of the WuYi mountain Oolongs, which are prized for their unique Yan Cha (literally, “flowers growing on the rocks”) taste. Our Da Hong Pao offers a long-lasting floral fragrance and a smooth, rich, sweet, refreshing aftertaste. Due to the high-quality nature of its leaves, it can be steeped up to nine times. Big Red Robe is truly more satisfying and thought provoking with every sip!
