Holy basil, or Tulsi in Hindi, might be the most revered medicinal plant in India for the past 5,000 years, where it is referred to as the “Mother Medicine of Nature” and “The Queen of Herbs.” Tulsi means “the incomparable one.” It is said to promote a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Considered a sacred plant, it is traditionally planted in the courtyard of Hindu houses, around shrines, and next to many temples. Holy basil has violet flowers and blossoms and the stems are green and sometimes have a purple tinge. The leaves are used for a stress relieving and harmonizing tisane that Indians have benefited from for thousands of years!
